Anybody read any of her stuff?
I'm having to read a lot of it to do a project on Bioshock and it's commentary on her philosophies (particularly concerning government and society).
What I know of it, I see her as a reactionary. She escaped from Communist Russia and comes up with a philosophy that is the exact opposite (except concerning faith) of Communism.
Where Communism says: You work for the good of everybody Objectivism(Ayn Rand's Philosophy) says: You work for your own good alone.
One of her books is called: "The Virtue of Selfishness" She says that rational selfishness is the highest moral good, and that altruism goes against human good and human nature. It highly emphasizes the individual.
Quite frankly I think that, like Communism, it goes to an extreme that is unhealthy. Meeting somewhere between the two poles with Faith included would be best, methinks.

Smacks like capitalism/consumerism to me. I believe that attitude is the biggest danger to Christianity today.

I absolutely agree.
I feel that individuality is important, definitely. I see it being as important as other people. "Love your neighbor as yourself"
It's this equilibrium thing that I think the world doesn't understand.

I have long believed that selfishness is the root of all sin. If we give our will over to that of God and let Him lead our actions the world would be a much better place. He is the only one that can see the big picture and knows what is really best for all of us. The problem comes when two people each believe that God is leading them in opposite directions.

Objectivism(Ayn Rand's Philosophy) says: You work for your own good alone. It seems like another name for capitalism. Are any of her works in the library? I'd like to see the difference in her Objectivism From Capitalism.
