I have come to the conclusion that I am addicted to Fallout 3.
At Christmas I got that game, as well as Left4Dead and Far Cry 2. Before that a few weeks, I got the latest Call of Duty game.
Call of Duty runs, but is slow. Far Cry doesn't run at all on my computer. Left 4 Dead runs well, but since I don't play online, it gets boring after you have gone through the four scenarios.
The thing (actually, things) I like about Fallout 3 is that it is set is Washington DC, and that the map is so large that you can do a great deal of exploring. I've been to Washington, and I got a kick out of going in game into many of the places and buildings I have been in real life. The two biggest rushes I got in the game were when I (1) killed a 30-foot behemoth with a Fat Boy and mini-nuke (awesome!) and (2) when I killed off an army of slavers who had taken over the Lincoln Monument.
I thought long and hard how I would do #2. I turned over a piece of Lincoln memorabilia so they would let me into the monument itself. Once in there, I saw that beyond the main entrance there were two ways in, both of them set with boobytraps. As the guard watched me, I dropped about 12 mines by the main entrance, then killed the guard. The others came rushing in the main entrance and several were killed by the mines. They then backed off and waited for me to come after them. I disarmed one of the boobytraps and snuck around the side to pick the guards off one by one.
It gave me a good feeling to know that I had accomplished something great, killing off slavers and letting the slaves find a place of their own to relocate.
Anyway, I really enjoy the game.
