Wow. I just finished the Graphic Novel, and wow.
Seriously, it just became my favorite Graphic Novel. Even above Sandman, if barely. It's just too good.
It was devastating. In a good way. It had me pondering various forms of morality, the nature of God and Man, and the dark and light sides of life. Incredible.
I can see why it was named one of the 100 greatest English works of the past century.
I reeeeeeaaaaaallllly hope the movie captures it even half as good.

Yeah, it was good. But I think part of what set it apart is how it broke many of the rules of the genre. I don't think characterization has been a strong suit of most graphic novels, but Watchmen really goes into that. Of course, if you understand that exploration of the dark side of superheroes is what it's about, then it makes sense.
Kind of why Batman Begins was so good, and then The Dark Knight. After The Dark Knight, I'm afraid that they are going to get into the same rut of highlighting bad guys, which was really the demise of the earlier Batman series.

I hope they don't go overboard either. I loved the Dark Knight, but I hope that the 3rd movie focuses back more solidly on Batman again. He seemed almost like a supporting character to Heath Ledger's Joker, and we could use some more exploration of Batman's Character. (I really think they're going to explore three things: 1.) The Joker's assertion that "There is no going back." when it comes to costumed vigilantes and criminals. 2.) Catwoman as a love interest. 3.) Batman as Outlaw and Public Enemy.)
